In a recent Tech Crunch article written by Jordan Crook, CloudFlare boast more than 1.5M users and accounts for 5% of the web request. This is a massive number. Even more astounding is the claim that 1 in 20 websites use CloudFlare.
At first glance, this seemed possible. However, I decided to do a little more research. According to the NetCraft Web 2013 Web Server Survey, there are 861,023,217 websites. This number fluctuates regularly. I’m not a mathematician, but if 1 in 20 websites are hosted on CloudFlare, and there are 861M websites, then CloudFlare hosts 43M websites (861M / 20). Wow, this seems too good to be true. But then again, I’m not a mathematician :).
