CDN Ecosystem Diagram 9

Bizety is publishing the 9th edition of the CDN Ecosystem Diagram. The ecosystem continues to grow, with two new additions that include Fireblade and Distill Networks. Both are exciting start-ups, that enter the industry with different business models. Fireblade is interesting because they partner with CDNs, as opposed to competing with them. That idea in itself is genius, because they remove the CDN competitive layer from the equation, and offer customers an extra security layer that sits on top of the CDN cyber security solution.

Distill Networks offers an advanced bot detection and mitigation service that leverages CDN infrastructure. I’ll do a write on them shortly. Lastly, the Content Exchange category has been expanded to include Akamai, Level 3, Limelight, Aframe, & MediaSilo. Basically, Content Exchange is a service that enables broadcasters, studios, post production houses, and film distributors the ability to upload large mezzanine files to a network using high performance upload technology solutions like Aspera, Signiant and SmartJog. At the same time, they deliver those files over a CDN or CDN-like network. MediaSilo and Aframe do much more than that, but they basically charge on a per GB model, similar to CDNs.
