Bizety is releasing the latest CDN Ecosystem diagram. The purpose of the diagram is to group CDNs together into areas of specialization, in order help discern the differences between the various CDNs. Today, the CDN industry is very diverse, and each CDN has its place in the ecosystem. The most exciting group is the innovation driven CDNs that are incorporate the latest technologies into their services, including wireless last mile acceleration, comprehensive security, virtual machines, containerization and SDN. Akamai and EdgeCast sit in the center, offering the most comprehensive feature set, with Limelight close behind. The additions to the diagram have a red X next to them.
Diagram Updates
- Microsoft Azure CDN is now in 3 sections of the diagram, including the General CDN section
- MaxCDN has moved in the innovation-driven CDN section
- Ooyala has been removed from the pure-play OVP section
- Google is in a red box – which is reserved for them, in case they decide to offer a productized CDN service
