China CDN Market Heating Up

ChinaCache and ChinaNetCenter, the two largest CDNs in China will have company soon. China Telecom and China Unicom have decided to enter the CDN industry, in order to transform themselves into more of a Internet / Cloud company. China Telecom has a market cap of $46B, and China Unicom a market cap of $96B, so they have tremendous resources to create an extensive global CDN footprint if they so desire. It also seems that Alibaba has a CDN in China, but it’s mostly to support its huge customer base. The China CDN market is ripe for tremendous growth, and CDNs based there are fortunate enough to be so few, in such a large market, as opposed to the US market which has 21 CDNs.

  • Prediction: China Telecom will create an LA based CDN team that will sell services to US companies that want to delivery content to China, similar to the way ChinaCache  does it
