Is Akamai Playing Tarzan Again, Rescuing BBC From DDoS Distress

Categories

Supposedly, BBC was knocked offline during the holidays by a DDoS Attack. Thereafter, Akamai, always the one wanting to play hero, rescued the damsel in distress. It wasn’t a massive volumetric attack, because in order to qualify as massive, it has to be an attack that measures 400Gbps on the richter scale. The more surprising part is we thought BBC was already using Akamai, so how did this happen. Maybe they were using Akamai but didn’t buy the DDoS option, so they could save a few dollars. Come on BBC, you should have known better, because if you’re a big time global news site on the scale of a CNN, you have to expect everyone and their second uncle is going to be gunning for you.
